CGNA works closely with the Chicago Police and promotes the Chicago Alternative Policing Strategy (CAPS) beat community meetings. CAPS meetings provide an opportunity for police and residents to exchange information about conditions in our neighborhood, identify crime and disorder problems and develop strategies to combat those problems.
Residents living within CGNA boundaries – Ashland, Grand, Damen and Chicago Avenues – are now divided into two different beats. Those of us living West of Wood St. are in Beat 1221 and those of us living East of Wood St. are in Beat 1215.
What is a CAPS Beat Facilitator? Appointed by the Chicago Police, he and/or she is a resident or stakeholder that lives or works in the beat. As an unpaid volunteer, the Beat Facilitator strives to make the police-community partnership as effective as possible – serving as a translator or communicator between beat residents, stakeholders and police.
Is there a safety or security issue on your block? Contact your local CAPS Beat Facilitator and we will work together to find solutions to your problem.
